Alana Bogart is an O&M specialist from Canada who now works for Blind Low Vision New Zealand. Alana takes us on a journey into the snow-bound villages and islands of British Columbia at minus 25 degrees, where she worked with First Nations people. She learned to call a cane a stick, fall down safely in the snow, and look out for bears. In Christchurch, she found some clients were more interested in learning long cane skills after the earthquakes – it seems that independent travel skills are handy in a crisis!
