Investigators have started contacting witnesses to the fatal capsizing of a boat south of Kaikoura at the weekend.
Five people who were in the cabin died when the chartered vessel overturned at Goose Bay. Six people survived, including the skipper.
The Transport Accident Investigation Commission is investigating the tragedy in conjunction with Maritime New Zealand and the police.
