The Waihi District Court has imposed a mammoth $350,000 fine on an inflatable slide company behind a string of accident and injuries.
It also has to pay almost $53,000 in damages. WorkSafe, which brought the case, says JTK Trustee Limited - trading as 'Fun Solutions' - put people in "extreme danger" when their slide collapsed at the 2020 Whangamata Summer Festival.
It had allowed the slide to become overloaded. At yesterday's sentencing, Louwan van Rooyen, described the impact when he fell from the top of the slide.
WorkSafe's area investigation manager Paul West was also in court.
West said Worksafe has had 11 prior interactions with the company and says its numerous failings are unacceptable.
Tom Taylor reports.
