Plenty of people on social media do it - use filters to change their appearance - but there's growing anger over the use of moko, mataora and other sacred Māori styles.
It's also highlighted concerns at the slow pace to protect Māori identity and intellectual property.
And as Liam Brown reports, that concern is growing with control over things like ta moko filters increasingly concentrated offshore.
