Gisborne's Mayor is insisting the town is a safe place to live after a hundred-person brawl resulted in two deaths on Saturday night.
Two people aged 21 and 30 have died and three others are in hospital in a fight sparked by the arrival of some unwelcome visitors at a 21st birthday party.
Officers from Hawke's Bay and beyond have already been shipped in to support the double homicide investigation.
Police say it wasn't a gang conflict, but gang members were present.
Mayor Rehette Stoltz spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
