The government needs to go back to the drawing board if it wants to get a proposed Kermadec Ocean Sanctuary off the ground with iwi support. More than 40 iwi organisations voted to reject the government's plan, with only one voting in favour. Maori say an indigenous led approach is the only way forward. Ngati Kuri are mana whenua and mana moana for the Kermadecs, and originally supported the sanctuary, but they didn't have voting rights. Ngati Kuri chair Harry Burkhardt spoke with Corin Dann.
