Risk Without Regret: Thoughts On Life, Business, Freedom, & Happiness

62 episodes - English - Latest episode: over 3 years ago - ★★★★★ - 53 ratings

Based out of Dayton, Ohio, Randy Johnson hosts a weekly podcast titled Risk Without Regret. The main goal of this show is to inspire and motivate you to follow your dreams, take more risks, build a business around your passions, and have no regrets along the way.

Some episodes, I'll discuss a quote I came across and really dig in deeper for 10-20 minutes. Quotes that mean something to me, and I think deserve to be expanded upon to make you think about them more and how they can relate to you.

The rest of the episodes will be more of an interview format. I'll bring guests onto the show that have an inspiring story to share about their journey. These might range from 30-90 minutes, and some may even pass the 2 hour mark. These amazing people will come from all walks of life and they bring insane amounts of wisdom to the table.

I refer to all of my guests as risk takers. Individuals who didn't follow the typical path, they paved their own. They enlighten us all about how they started their business, or travel the world, or work from their laptop on a beach, or make 7-figures, or even just how their life experiences shaped them into who they are today.

Some are more successful than others, but they all share the same mindset of taking risks, doing what they love, helping others, and living life to the fullest. Enjoy!

#62 – 5 Year Podcast Anniversary Leads to Finally Creating Videos

August 03, 2020 02:30 - 23 minutes - 34.4 MB

My Risk Without Regret podcast launched 5 years ago this weekend. I’ve taken too long of a break from it, but it’s time to finally get back. And what better way than to start creating videos on the 5 year anniversary. I’ve been terrified to be on video for so long, but that was just a stupid story I told myself. Zero excuses. Just start and keep going. Let go of perfection, just create now with whatever tools you have. So here’s me rambling for 23 minutes about myself and my podcast and my l...

February 10, 2019 17:22 - 19 minutes - 28.2 MB

If you're a musician, you want more people to listen to your music. And you'd prefer to create music full-time. Which means you'll likely need to make money from it. Today's episode talks about various ways to increase your YouTube revenue. In the end, you should strive to connect with your fans more. And by giving them more of what they want, you'll also get more of what you want. Some of these strategies (which are probably obvious to most bands) can help you make a few extra bucks, and...

#60 - Why Success is a Bad Thing if You’re Doing Shit You Hate

January 24, 2019 01:18 - 21 minutes - 31.2 MB

Everyone hears the word "success" and instantly thinks of fame and fortune. But we all know (or should know) that happiness doesn't actually come from money. Unfortunately we all have to figure this out for ourselves. In this episode I talk about mundane tasks, people hating their jobs, feeling stuck, how money is an incentive to keep you there, going down the wrong path, making changes, how you have plenty of time every week to figure something else out, and asking questions like what do...

#58 - Why My Monthly Subscription Boxes Failed and What I'd Do Different Next Time

April 05, 2018 19:25 - 42 minutes - 60.6 MB

So about a year ago, I wanted to create my own monthly subscription box for my Low Label clothing brand. Everyone was doing them and I thought I could build something cool too. I had no idea what I was doing so it was a lot of trial and error, until I ultimately shut it down at the end of 2017. Throughout this episode, I explain the details of my monthly box and why it was a failure (even though most failures are great learning experiences). I talk about why it probably didn't work out, a...

#57 - The Hard Work Puts You Where The Good Luck Can Find You

February 02, 2018 06:57 - 3 minutes - 6.06 MB

Here's a super short episode, only 3 minutes in length. I posted this quote on my personal Instagram a couple months ago (@bigran82). I wrote a long caption explaining my thoughts on it and how it relates to my life. I turned that caption into audio and now it's available through my podcast. Here's the text version of this episode: So much work over the past week, and it continues into another late one tonight. I think we are all lucky at times, but no one is lucky 24/7. Someone cal...

#56 - Air Force Pilot Turns a $36 Candy Machine into an 8-Figure Vending Business

January 29, 2018 04:54 - 59 minutes - 83.2 MB

On today's episode, I have an amazing interview that I know you'll get some value out of. My guest is an entrepreneur located down in Texas, and although he's running a successful business these days, it wasn't always that way. In fact, for almost 10 years, he was an air force pilot flying all over the world. But after you hear his story, as well as the ups and downs along the way, you'll understand why he transitioned into something completely different: vending machines. He took a si...

#55 - Starting a Web Design Business and Using Themes for Client Websites

December 03, 2017 05:44 - 26 minutes - 36.7 MB

If someone comes to me and says they want to own their own business someday, but they have no skills and they have no idea what to do, the first thing I ask them is, "Do you enjoy being on a computer for long periods of time?" If they say no, I think they should be trying as many new things as possible to see what sticks and what they enjoy doing. Almost anything can be monetized at some point. But if they say yes, and they also say they are pretty tech-savvy, I instantly tell them they s...

#54 - How To Use 60 Hashtags On Your Instagram Photos

October 28, 2017 20:10 - 17 minutes - 24.9 MB

Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms out there. I use it constantly, and I have way too many accounts, more than any sane person should be able to handle. Hashtags are at the core of this app/tool, and it's a way for other people to find you and your content. But there are rules. And the rule is, no more than 30 hashtags, because people always abuse things like this, so they had to put a limit on it. But there's a loophole... In this episode, I talk about how I s...

May 22, 2017 21:57 - 11 minutes - 16.9 MB

On this week's episode, I discuss a great quote from the book I'm currently reading called Essentialism. Here's the quote: Only once you give yourself permission to stop trying to do it all, to stop saying yes to everyone, can you make your highest contribution towards the things that really matter. -Greg McKeown These days, everyone seems to be overwhelmed, including me. I take on too many projects and it's easy to get stressed out by trying to do everything. Fortunately, there's a...

#50 - Top 50 Quotes From My First 22 Interviews

April 22, 2017 00:52 - 23 minutes - 33.3 MB

Since this is a milestone, I decided to make episode 50 a little different. I went back through all of the interviews and pulled out my favorite 2-3 quotes from each. This will definitely be one of the episodes that I tell everyone to listen to right after they discover my podcast. The amount of inspiration that's packed into this 24 minute episode will likely have you listening to it once a week. Anytime that I'm down, or in a funk, or having a creativity block, I read through tons of...

February 23, 2017 04:48 - 22 minutes - 31.7 MB

Most of the successful people I follow or have read about usually have a specific morning routine that helps them accomplish more or increases their happiness throughout the day. In this episode, I explain what I'm currently doing during the first couple hours of each day. Plus I also talk about the one big thing that gets me out of bed right away almost every single day, no matter how tired I feel. I'm not perfect, so every day isn't exactly like this, but for the most part, I try to ...

#48 - Be Decisive. A Wrong Decision is Typically Better Than Indecision.

January 30, 2017 10:05 - 8 minutes - 11.7 MB

I read somewhere that the average adult makes around 35,000 decisions a day. Think how stressed out you'd be if you were indecisive about all of those! I'm a very indecisive person, and sometimes I just have to force myself to make a decision and move on. In most cases, even if it turns out to be the wrong choice, it's not the end of the world. In this episode, I dig into this quote: "Be decisive. A wrong decision is generally less disastrous than indecision." -Bernhard Langer These...

When I first heard about the company, I was like, someone is making things out of goat milk? So obviously I had to check it out since my curiosity couldn't take it anymore. #44 - Don't Try to Be Everything to Everybody

December 15, 2016 16:19 - 25 minutes - 35.4 MB

When it comes to your small business, trying to be everything to everybody is the perfect plan for failure. If you try to offer everything for the masses, you'll likely attract nobody. Figure out exactly what you want to do, based around something you enjoy doing, then decide exactly who you want to create this product/service for. Once you know who it's for, then you can go find those people in the world. Then talk to them, talk to as many people as you can in your target audience, and f...

I'll let her explain all the various things she did with the clothing lines, but this was also around the time when s...

October 14, 2016 21:24 - 26 minutes - 36.6 MB

So it's been a couple months since I posted the last episode. I know. I'm sorry. I needed a break, and I kept making the break longer and longer. After two months, I said, this is enough, let's dive back into this podcast hardcore. Episode 40 is all about the things I've learned in my first year of podcasting. I've learned a lot about the process, people, the tech side of things, the world, and myself. There were 39 episodes posted in the first year, I took a two month break, and fr...

#38 - How I Started Mini Truck Scene and Went From Photography to Apparel

July 14, 2016 05:56 - 37 minutes - 51.7 MB

Back in 2011, I had no idea what a simple domain name purchase would lead to. It initially started as a place to store my truck show photography, but over the years, that grew to all sorts of merchandise. I started small, just some stickers, koozies, and super basic tshirts. For awhile, I even carried some products like DVDs from other companies in the scene. In early 2013, I was ready to take this idea to a whole new level. My first vendor booth weekend was a success and I was hooked....

#36 - The Difference Between Being Frugal & Being Cheap

July 03, 2016 22:27 - 14 minutes - 22.2 MB

We all need some amount of money, that's a fact. How we spend that money is vastly different. I would classify myself as a frugal person: someone that spends money on the things that add value to my life, and saving money on the things that don't matter as much. In this episode, I'll dig into the difference between being frugal and being a cheapskate. We all love saving money, but there are times when it makes sense to spend. Enjoy! I hope you enjoy this episode and be sure to subsc...

June 03, 2016 20:00 - 8 minutes - 13.7 MB

So many people struggle trying to start a business because they think they have to know everything. And if there's something they don't know, they think they have to figure it out on there own. Search around on the internet and you can literally find the answers to every single question you could possibly have. But a lot of times, it makes sense to seek out advice from others. The problem lies in who you ask though. If you're trying to start a food truck, you shouldn't get getting advi...

RWR-032: Being Bored vs. Being Lazy

May 18, 2016 07:04 - 25 minutes - 36.8 MB

When I hear people say they are bored, it blows my mind. How can anybody be bored these days? With all of the technological advances, everyone has access to everything and we are all connected 24/7. There's no reason anyone should ever be bored. Being lazy on the other hand, I think we all get stuck in that phase from time to time. People that say they are bored, some of these things come to mind: no goals, they are on cruise control, no imagination, taking things for granted, no hobbies,...

April 30, 2016 18:18 - 9 minutes - 13.6 MB

No matter how much money you make, if you're spending more than you make, your equation is broke. It's simple math. RWR-028: Why Multitasking is a Lie

April 05, 2016 18:30 - 10 minutes - 15.1 MB

No matter how much you want it to be true, it just isn't. Humans cannot successfully multitask. Our brains are fast, but not that fast. Even computers can't multitask, they just work faster than the human brain, so it appears like they are processing code simultaneously, when they really aren't. I was motivated to record a podcast on this subject after reading a chapter out of this book. I literally couldn't put this new book down last night. Also, it's 2016, and everyone claims to be an ex...

You can be an expert if you know a little more than the average person. RWR-019: Bringing the Most Influential People Together with Joshua Santos

January 15, 2016 15:19 - 1 hour - 96.2 MB

A Facebook friend of mine, Jason Reaves, reached out to me about a month or so ago. He actually initiated a group message on Facebook which also included Joshua Santos, a person I was not familiar with. Jason gave the backstory and was basically the middle man, connecting Joshua and myself together. After learning more about Joshua, I knew he was the perfect candidate to be on this podcast, so I set out to make that happen. One of the coolest things he's done recently was connecting Andy Fr...

RWR-016: Less is More, Tiny Houses, and Doing What You Love with Trevor Gay

December 25, 2015 06:25 - 1 hour - 121 MB

About 3 months ago, I posted a photo of a 500 square foot tiny house on my instagram. Something about a small living space really interests me. The idea of just using it to do the basic things in life. Something like this would most definitely encourage you to get outdoors more and live more. In the comments, one of my friends said I should talk to Trevor Gay from Heart Of It All House.
