Rebecca Symes is a sports psychologist, based in the UK, now working full time in football. Her aim is to enhance performance and wellbeing with individuals and teams.

There is still some stigma towards psychology being there to fix problems, sort things out or if you are underperforming. But more often than not, Rebecca works with people when they are performing well, enhancing performance and wellbeing. These people are already flourishing and are looking for the advantage, the competitive edge.

Rebecca shares her views around the importance of developing a great sporting culture and system to nurture teams by improving communication, understanding eachothers strengths and getting the most out of eachother collectively.

Addressing expectations is always a challenge as you don t want to quash peoples sense of aiming high, but it has to be measured with realistic expectations. Rebecca also highlights the relevance of coaching, the competitive nature of human beings, the importance of failure and the downfall of focusing on winning.

Some great lessons to be learnt.
