JEREMY BENTHAM’S HEAD - PART ONE

In this episode, Em tells us the life story of guy named Jeremy Bentham..but stay tuned for a follow-up “post-mortem” episode about his famous severed head.
We’ll learn that being a wealthy man in the Georgian era afforded such things as - getting a college degree as baby, adding your own words to the lexicon and being mildly weird and eccentric without consequence. His contributions included progressing Utilitarianism as a mode of thought, planting the well-intentioned seeds of modern policing, prison and surveillance as well as producing a prolific volume of writing with some unexpectedly progressive views on women, homosexuality and atheism. Most importantly, you can finally find out the name of his walking stick!
