Whether you’re new to real estate or you’re a seasoned pro, doing your own due diligence in deals is so important. Unfortunately, scammers are everywhere today, but if you’re looking into all the red flags and bad gut feelings, you can catch them before it’s too late. I’ve dealt with scammers myself, and in one case, they did a fake power of attorney. We didn’t catch it until after the property closed and we went to send the money. 

Clients of mine have encountered scammers as well. Many people think they won’t get scammed because it’s a matter of common sense, but the truth is, when you’re emotionally involved in a deal, you may miss the signs. Letting excitement take hold of you might make you blind to a scam and the next thing you know, they have your money and you’re looking for an attorney. Be alert and always trust your instincts. If something feels off or too good to be true, it probably is.
