Meet the Registry Report Radio Team as we discuss the latest developments in Michigan and Alabama.

In a completely unprecedented move, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed amicus briefs in the Michigan Supreme Court today in Michigan v Snyder (Case number 153696) and People v Betts (Case number 148981), arguing that Michigan’s sex offender registration and notification requirements are punishment because they are so burdensome and fail to distinguish between dangerous offenders and those who are not a threat to the community.

U.S. District Judge Keith Watkins ruled part of Alabama’s internet reporting requirements are unconstitutional. The ruling also declared unconstitutional the state’s requirement for sex offenders to have a valid driver’s license or other identification card that identifies the person as a sex offender.
