Romans 10:8-15
In Romans 10, Paul writes that salvation’s only requirement is that we confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts that Jesus is Lord.
The confessing part seems pretty easy to understand. We use our voice to tell people that Jesus is Lord. The words we use every day when we speak to our family members, our co-workers, our neighbors, or the stranger at the gas station are to be life-giving words and point people to Jesus. Those words are just as much a testimony as any other words.
Secondly, we are to believe in our hearts. This is more than just saying that we believe in Jesus. Paul calls us to action. We are being called to live a life that shows our belief. When we follow Jesus, we are following Him to the cross. We must die (our desires, motivations, preferences) so that Jesus can live in and through us. We do all of this so that others will know Jesus by our love.
