On April 28, 2013, Kirsten Englund was driving up the Oregon coast to visit her son when she decided to stop at an overlook and admire a lighthouse, a touristic detour which should have led only to her taking a few pictures before getting back on the road. Instead, she encountered a mentally disturbed man — a man who should not have possessed had a gun — who shot her to death in an entirely avoidable act of random violence. In today's episode, we examine Kirsten's case and a piece of its legal aftermath: the suit Brady's legal team brought against the firearms dealer who, sight unseen via the internet, sold Kirsten's killer the gun he used to murder her.
