This episode is dedicated to my mom, Alice Smith. I'm sharing the top 5 life lessons I learned from her as we celebrate her life.

Alice Lear Smith
July 16, 1942 – July 20, 2018

Alice Lear (Rock) Smith is the oldest of four children to Violia Frances Windborne and James Jacob Rock of Woodford, VA. She was born July 16, 1942 in Washington, DC. She was her high school valedictorian, received her Associates Degree from Northern Virginia Community College and her BA from Potomac College, majoring in accounting.

She was married to Elbert Allen Smith for 56 years, and raised two fiercely independent daughters.

She loved her co-workers from PSI, Del-Tech, Stafford University, and the City of Bowie.

Alice loved to travel. Paris, London, cruises to the Mediterranean, Hawaii, and Aruba were a few of her destinations.

In her mid-twenties, she spent decades as a member of a bowling league, then in her 50’s became a member of the Women of Whist, where card playing was serious business.

She was preceded in death by one brother, James Rock. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Elbert Allen Smith, her two daughters Sandra Gammons (Charles Gammons) and Doreen Rainey (Reginald Rainey), her two grandsons, Shemuel and Jakob; a granddog Monte, and her partner in crime, her caregiver for the past two years, and dedicated sister-in-law, Nevada Smith.

I would love to hear from you! What lesson resonated with you the most, or what life lesson have you learned from your mom or mother figure?
