If only - one of the most powerful emotions to experience - regret. Man - if only I had know….fill in the blank… then I wouldn;’t have gotten into that situation, I wouldn’t have bought that car, that house, I wouldn’t have … whatever. OR if only I had known I WOULD HAVE done something. I WOULD HAVE visited my dad, would have studied harder.

Today, as we continue to study the book of Luke, Jesus is going to talk about that kind of regret. But, He’s going to go even deeper Into a spiritual regret that many will one day feel.

Before we start reading it, let me remind you of the context: For the past two weeks we have looked at the triumphal entry of Jesus. We looked at the crowd who wanted to make Jesus an earthly king - though that was not His intention. We then looked at the donkey that was used by Jesus and how, if we are to be used for His purposes, we, too, must be bought and brought and broken before him.

And this morning, Jesus is still on that donkey - he hasn’t even made it to the city gates yet. But as he overlooks Jerusalem - the city of peace - he is overcome with emotion - and for good reason.

Let’s take a look. Turn to Luke 19 once again - this time we’re picking it up at verse 41.
