I’ve got a few things here this morning to show you. First of all, I have a toy boat. This reminds me that we are approaching Summer (starts officially Tuesday). In past summers, when the reservoirs were a little bit fuller, I know people who love to take their boats out there and have a great time. (I even remember a good friend from PBCC who had told me he wasn’t going to be at church - I believe it was last summer - and while we were outside for church, I saw him drive by, towing his boat!)

Boats are great for many people. Some people use their boats to go fishing, or to go water skiing. And others may just like going out and enjoying the beautiful weather on the lake or up on the river.

But Summer is not just the time when people go out in their boats a lot. In many places in our country, summer is also the season for storms, so when people go out in their boat, they must always be careful to pay attention to the weather because a storm can come up very suddenly - which can be very dangerous.

Storms at sea can be very scary. The wind howls and the waves crash over the boat. You definitely don’t want to be out in a storm in a little boat - that’s for sure. If you haven’t got a very big boat, it is extremely dangerous because you are in danger of being swamped completely and sinking!!!

So one day, Jesus and some of his disciples were out on a lake in a boat. And it wasn’t a huge boat. Obviously big enough for 13 people - but definitely not a cruise liner! It was a fishing boat that had sails and oars and fishing gear like nets and such. And when they were crossing that lake - also called the Sea of Galilee, something scary happened.
