Unemployment in Australia peaked at 7.5 per cent last year but has since fallen to 5.8 per cent, however significant job losses are expected in some sectors such as tourism and events.
Business groups and unions are urging the federal government to consider extra support for struggling industries, arguing tens of thousands of people are at risk of losing their jobs.
