On Episode 18 of the Philosophical Weightlifting podcast I was joined by Wil Fleming. Wil has quite then extensive resume as both an athlete and a performance coach.
He competed in many sports throughout high school, including football, weightlifting, and field sports. He became a junior national champion in the sport of weightlifting and also attended Indiana University where he holds the school record for the hammer throw. Wil still competes as a Master’s athlete in the sport of weightlifting, winning a national championship in the 85kg class and best overall lifter in 2017.
A few of the main talking points of this podcast were:
- Wil's background
- Wil’s biggest influences as a coach
- His technique teaching model
- How he programs for his weightlifters
- The squat program he uses for himself and his athletes, which has helped him increase his back squat 5 rep max from 170 to 200 and his front squat 3 rep max from 150 to 175
- Squat variations replacing high repetition sets
- One thing you could do each day to better your life
- And so much more
This was an awesome show guys and I am so excited to have had this opportunity. Thanks for listening and if you enjoy what you heard give us a like, share, and subscribe for future episodes.
