Edgar Hernandez a native of Alton Texas enjoyed playing sports with his friends as a child. After graduating High school, he joined the US Army where he served 7 and a half years. He shares about 9/11 and how in February 2003 his unit 507 Maintenance Company 5/52 Air Defense Artillery was deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom. On March 23, 2003, his unit was ambushed by Iraqi soldiers in Al Nasiriyah Iraq where many American soldiers were killed, wounded and captured. In this
interview Edgar describes the day he was taken captive. He was one of seven soldiers captured by Iraqi soldiers and was held for 21 days as a Prisoner of War (POW). Upon returning from the Iraq war, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and POW Medal. After completing his military service, he became a police officer and has served at this capacity for 14 years.
Edgar also talks about how God has helped him surpass this dramatic experience and how each day is a gift, and he enjoys and cherishes each day with his children.
