Previous Episode: Palms & Praise

Passion Week, aka Holy Week, is about commemorating and acknowledging what Jesus did and deemed important enough to address before making the ultimate sacrifice on the cross.

Holy Monday is the day Jesus cleansed the temple, was praised by local children, and cursed the fig tree (Matthew 21:12–22).

First, I want to set the scene for you. Although the people were praising Jesus, most did not believe he was the Messiah. However, they were willing to honor, worship and give praise to one they thought could meet their need.

The honor and praise they gave Jesus was similar to the honor and praise people today give psychics, celebrities, and those with wealth, with no foundation of godliness in their actions or intentions.

Matthew 21:12-13 scripture tells us. “Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. ‘It is written,’ he said to them, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it a den of robbers.’”

We pay homage to Jesus for setting the standard against people using what should be sacred as a marketplace for profit, which deters believers from their mandate to give tithes and offerings, which in turn robs the people of God from the full release of the blessings of God in their lives.
