A native of Chicago’s South Side and the only child of parents who met during the civil rights movement, Nancy Johnson writes at the intersection of race and class. She worked for more than a decade as an Emmy-nominated, award-winning television journalist at CBS and ABC affiliates nationwide. Her debut novel The Kindest Lie (named one of the most anticipated books of 2021 by the Chicago Tribune,Newsweek, Oprah Magazine, Shondaland, Parade) tackles essential and timely issues including "The Talk" that Black parents have with their children, expectations for success when growing up Black, when do children begin to understand the concept of race, is racism a learned behavior, and what inspired Nancy to write this book (plus what she hopes readers will gain from reading it).
