Oz 9
157 episodes - English - Latest episode: 15 days ago - ★★★★★ - 305 ratingsIt's Spring 2142 (a Tuesday), and Gated Galaxies has launched its 400 Oz-8000 ships, each carrying 50,000 "resting guests" to, hopefully, a new home on a shiny, brand-new planet. Except this whole "terraform and take over" idea isn't actually the plan; the real plan is far more nefarious and involves a great deal of cackling. But those aboard the ships don't know that, so off they toodle (those that make it out of Earth's atmosphere, at least), all shiny and optimistic. This is the story of one of those ships – the Oz 9 – and its tiny crew of hopeless incompetents. So far, they've been in space half an hour and several hundred people are dead. So... bright future, clearly.

episode sixty-four: Is there anyone on the bridge whose name isn't completely douchey?
November 08, 2021 05:04 - 24 minutes - 57.1 MBYeah, it's kind of a long title, but it's an important question. This episode is a flashback in which random, weird stuff happens, just in case you were wondering if 2021 and 2022 were the weirdest history gets. You've been listening to Eric Perry as Joe David S Dear as Tiberius Shannon Perry as Olivia Aaron Clark as Le Bichon Frise Tim Sherburn as Colin Richard Nadolny as your Narrator, and Kyle Jones as Narrator 2. Our music is composed and performed by John Faley; Lucas E...
episode sixty-four: Three rights and a left
November 08, 2021 05:04 - 26 minutesThe original title of this episode bugged me, so I changed it. I can do that. If you're worried the power might go to my head, well, just wait until you see your birth certificate. This episode is a flashback in which random, weird stuff happens, just in case you were wondering if 2021 and 2022 were the weirdest history gets. episode sixty-three: You are a naughty little schatzi
October 24, 2021 19:07 - 32 minutesYou thought your job was hard, imagine being Narrator (or Narrator 2, really) for this boatload of Twinkies. (Which, incidentally have still not shown any signs of decomposition in 2142, just sayin'.) If our Narrator makes it through his contract without developing a neurosis (or cirrhosis), well, it's not our fault. Avocado yogurt.... avocado yogurt.... Stay tuned through the end to hear the MCCACEC Fight Song by the amazing Sarah Golding! You've been listening to Eric Perry as Joe and Dr v...
episode sixty-two: I sent him a hippotigrus
October 04, 2021 08:18 - 28 minutesNOTE: Listen to the end for awesome trailers! It's true many people complain that Oz 9 is not only NOT educational, it may in fact "leach information out of your brain as you listen." (thanks, mom — real nice) We beg to differ. Did you know zebras were once called "hippotigruses" (hippotigri? whatever)? Think of how much you've learned about plants and space and maths and fugu and Sweden! Anyway, if we're making you dumber, I think you know exactly what Olivia would have to say to that. Becau...
episode sixty-one: The "tilslørte bondepiker" maneuver
September 20, 2021 04:24 - 23 minutesLOOK. I never said it would be the MORNING of September 19, I just said it would be ON September 19, so I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. It's episode 61, and incredibly, it seems our crew might have actually lost some brain cells over the hiatus. I swear, if there's a skull and crossbones on it, this crew wants to eat it, marry it, or at least put it in the garage next to something flammable. In this episode: June Clark Eubanks as the Albatros Tim Sherburn as Colin Bonnie Brantley as Donna and Je...
Bonus: Oz 9 episode X-1
September 12, 2021 20:05 - 23 minutesWritten by Lee Shackleford of the awesome sci-fi audio drama Relativity, this bonus episode exposes you to yet more of Oz 9 that you were hoping to avoid. Is it possible an advanced alien species is coming aboard the ship? Well, yeah, I mean — they're in space. But, are they friendly? This is the Oz 9. What are the chances? HUGE thanks to Lee, who wrote AND produced this episode despite all our mostly unintentional efforts to thwart him. BTW, Lee is an amazing voice and stage actor, writer, a...

Thanks, listener in Zambia (Oz 9 chat, part deux)
August 29, 2021 11:00 - 1 hourWe'd like to dedicate this second hiatus episode to our one fan in Zambia. To date, according to our stats, there have been 86 downloads in Zambia. We figure that's one fan who listened to every episode, including all the hiatus and bonus stuff, and to him, her, or them, we say a profound "thank you!" And the same "thank you" to everyone who listens. We know there's more important stuff you can be doing, like thinning out your spatula collection or arranging your vegetable garden in descendin...

Oz 9 "the hiatus ate us" chat
August 20, 2021 02:09 - 1 hour"The hiatus ate us!" That line, courtesy of the brilliant Bonnie Brantley, is all too true. We started our hiatus with great plans to do all kinds of fun Oz 9-y things in all that copious free time, only to have our ideas evaporate in the harsh light of real life. Sorry. But here's some of us talking about stuff. Does that help? Our theme and other music is composed and performed by John Faley. Our artwork is by Lucas Elliott. Oz 9 is a proud member of the Fable & Folly network! Please suppo...

episode sixty: Your breath smells of caramel and butterscotch
July 11, 2021 12:00 - 57 minutesThis one is a beast. Go to the bathroom, get some water, maybe load up on some snacks. Is your listening device charged? Get comfy. We have a lot to tell. This season, you've been listening to: Tim Sherburn as Colin, Buck, and Emily Richard Cowen as Leet and Percival/Tiberius Bonnie Brantley as Donna and Jessie Eric Perry as Dr von Haber Zetzer, Howard, Joe, and Mr Southers Shannon Perry as Olivia and Madeline Aaron Clark as le Bichon Frise and Ben June Clark Eubanks as the Albatros a...
episode fifty-nine: Quality control. Also, nibbles.
June 16, 2021 00:12 - 30 minutesYou've been awesome! No, really. I'd love to be able to reward your patience, but instead I just have an episode. I know it's not much, but I made it myself. One more episode to close out the season: are you ready? No. You're not. Sorry, but you are SO not ready. You're listening to: Lee Shackleford as Pluto Kevin Hall as Felonius and Greg Bonnie Brantley as Donna and Jessie Iri Alexander as Julie Aaron Clark as Ben Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield Mrs Sheffield as Mrs Arris Eric Perry...
episode fifty-eight: Spucked into sace
May 17, 2021 23:24 - 27 minutesWith just three episodes left in the season, is that a cliff I see ahead? With a small branch protruding from its face, just right for hanging? Things are moving along at a rapid pace, much like the Oz 9 isn't, and there are surprises, tears, laughter, warming of hearts, girding of loins, rending of garments, and possibly smoochies ahead. Oh, and you're gonna want to stick through the credits this time. YES, WE DID THAT THING WHERE WE PUT SOMETHING IMPORTANT AFTER THE CREDITS, WOULD IT KILL Y...
episode fifty-seven: But then I also say higgledy piggledy
May 03, 2021 04:46 - 28 minutesThis episode begins with a funeral, so you might want to have tissues handy. The production assistant was supposed to get hypo-allergenic flowers for the ceremony but managed to find hyper-allergenic ones, which not only make you sneeze, they cram themselves up your nose until you beg for mercy. The PA has been fwipped, so if you have even remotely appropriate experience, we're hiring. You've been listening to... Tim Sherburn as Colin Bonnie Brantley as Jessie and Donna Richard Cowen as L...
episode fifty-six: Our future together is suddenly in doubt
April 19, 2021 06:20 - 27 minutesWe did a comic book! You'll hear us talking about the Kickstarter here, which is well and truly over, thanks for asking. Now just buy one and get them out of my garage? (https://oz9podcast.etsy.com) Here's a surprise: Jessie doesn't like comics. She says they're too colourful and she's never read one. I would have recommended she read them when she's not in a bad mood, but maybe that's what she's already doing? Anyway, you know the drill. You've been listening to these people. Gourd knows why...
Bonus Mission: *FWIP!* (Part 2)
March 28, 2021 11:00 - 39 minutesA rift in time and space causes 4 members of the Oz 9 crew to get pulled off the space ship (bringing the median IQ up significantly) and swapped with 4 members of the EMF (aaaaaaaaaaand we're back to where we were, IQ-wise). This is part two of a special two-part crossover with the hilarious secret agent comedy, Mission: Rejected. If you haven't heard part one yet, stop, put us on pause, go out, listen to part 1 on the Mission: Rejected feed (https://missionrejected.simplecast.com/), come ba...

episode fifty-five: Monkey Man, gather the sweets
March 22, 2021 05:54 - 31 minutesOK, OK, yes, it's late AGAIN. We know. We've been having a really rough time lately, the kids are sick, the roof caved in when we had that thunderstorm last week, and then there was that other thing.... No, you're right. None of that is true. Our alarm is a bored dude just saying "alarm alarm alarm" over and over, so clearly this is not a well-financed, slick-and-professional thing we've got going here. Throw some money at our Patreon or Kofi (optimistically posting the links below), and may...
episode fifty-four: Remove the bejesus with fear
March 03, 2021 06:58 - 29 minutesAll the backstory you never wanted and then some. We find out some stuff about Le Bichon Frise, some other stuff about Donna, blah blah blah. Greg falls over at one point, so that's pretty funny. I'd say "sorry it's so late," but I feel like I ought to be sorry before I say sorry. So.... It's late. You've been listening to: Bonnie Brantley as Donna and Jessie Eric Perry as Dr. von Haber Zetzer and Joe Shannon Perry as Olivia and Madeline Aaron Clark as Le Bichon Frise David S. Dear as ...
episode fifty-three: Where's Grammar Girl when you need her?
February 15, 2021 03:33 - 30 minutesThe universe may be crashing around your ears, but as long as you know the difference between who and whom and how to scoop up a dangling participle, you'll be all right. It's kind of like knowing where your towel is. In this very special episode, a guest pops onto the ship and into Leet's arms, and for a few moments at least, all seems right with the world. A very few moments. And not really "right" so much as "slightly less wrong." Many thanks to our very special guest, Mignon Fogarty, educ...
episode fifty-two: Everyone knows about böckling
February 01, 2021 04:52 - 33 minutesDo you know how to disable an invisible alarm? Yeah, well, listen close; someone on our crew is about to tell you. Well, maybe... we're not entirely sure it works, so I don't know that I'd test it at the Louvre. Maybe Paddy MacDougal's Museum O'Naughty Limericks and Saucy Sea Shanties first. Just steer clear of the green milkshakes. Actually, that's a really good lesson for the Oz 9 as well. Anyway, here's the episode, it's late, and there are probably half a dozen limericks at Paddy's that ...
episode fifty-one: I look damn good in jodhpurs
January 17, 2021 11:23 - 30 minutesThe crew aboard the Oz 9 are stalactites, holding tight to the ceiling in unexpected zero Gs, and the crew on the ground are stalagmites, who might survive if a crabby, oddly dressed ancient god decides to let them go. You know, same old same old. Oz 9 is back from holiday break, though why a crew that typically works a solid seven-minute day needs a break is yet to be determined. We hope you missed us as much as we very nearly missed that very important satellite. Hey, who needs news in thi...
Bonus: Oz 9 It doesn't get much more trivial than this
January 04, 2021 02:29 - 1 hourTo punish Kevin Hall for having the gall to ... something, I can't remember what it was he did, but for sure he did something really bad to merit this kind of response.... Anyway, maybe just to be mean, we made him relisten to Oz 9, write a bunch of trivia questions, then ask them to four people who among them could barely scrape up an answer to the question of what they had for breakfast on that particular day. It's nearly 90 minutes of "uhhhhhh....." and "hang on, I know I know this one," ...

Bonus Diary of a Oz9ivist: Is this a cheese dream?
December 06, 2020 12:00 - 22 minutesEARLIER SOUND ISSUES HAVE BEEN CORRECTED, AND OUR PRODUCTION PERSON HAS BEEN FWIIIIIIIIIIII...... What happens when the alien aboard your ship gets hungry? Usually really gross things involving lots of blood and gore and that, but fortunately for us, the grossest thing in this episode is a small critter popping out of an orifice. Which is actually less gross than it sounds. Wait for it. The ships of Samantha Lyons and the Oz 9 have stumbled into one another in space, and Leet's had lots of c...

episode fifty: M'Lady of Little Chadwick upon Bad Patter
November 22, 2020 21:06 - 31 minutesHumans on the receiving end of divine affections don't do so well, mythologically speaking. However, after having seen Donna in action, the smart money is on the homo sapien. Pluto better watch his gold lamé onesie, if he knows what's good for him. With this episode, we are officially halfway through Season 3 of Oz 9, so let's all take a moment to realize this crew of idiots has managed to survive this long. Well, apart from Matt, that guard in the tunnel, Lady Nibble-Biscuit, the mime, sever...
episode forty-nine: I'm soft, squishy, and covered in Hollandaise sauce
November 09, 2020 04:38 - 32 minutesI'd apologize for this being so late, but if you think about it, I gave you an extra 16-and-a-half Oz-free hours, which is, like, a decade in idiot years. It's been a long day aboard the Oz 9. You think bad decision making is easy — Doritos for dinner? Yes, please. Easy! Go for a run or drink chocolate milk with vodka? Vodka. Definitely. Easy! —and yet, it's exhausting. So, you'll get no apology from me, unless I come across one on my way to the couch. You've been listening to: Bonnie Bran...
episode forty-eight: We only have three minutes
October 25, 2020 11:00 - 31 minutesRemember how there was that one week you were sick or maybe just on vacation but too poor to go anywhere? And you watched daytime TV, and even though you knew it was ridiculous and cheesy, by Friday you were desperate to know if little Suzy really was Armoire's daughter and if Aristato would find Nectarina in time to stop her from marrying ... I don't know, Ponderosa Jutjaw or whatever? Just stay with me, this is relevant. What I'm saying is, it's totally possible to get swept up in a story, ...

episode forty-seven: Chasing Lord Lunchable
October 11, 2020 11:00 - 27 minutesWhat would you do if everything in your garden suddenly attacked you? Carrots shooting themselves at your eyes, radishes nibbling tiny, spicy holes in your ankles, kohlrabi shouting at you, probably in German, given how "kohlrabi" is spelled — does it seem German to you? just me? — and let's not even talk about what the watermelon is trying to do. Would you ever be able to eat a salad again? This is vaguely relevant to episode 47, but only sort of. Meanwhile, I'm going to have nightmares abou...
episode forty-six: It's invasion of the body snackers
September 27, 2020 11:00 - 29 minutesProbably the most remarkable thing that happens in this entire episode is that Le Bichon Frise pronounces "assassinate" correctly. I know. We were pretty shocked too. It happens at the bottom of page 3, so if you just want to hear that and skip the rest, I don't suppose anyone would blame you. Oh, and there's a bit about a butterfly that's funny. You might want to stick around for that. Up to you. You've been listening to: Iri Alexander as Julie Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield David S Dear ...
episode forty-five: Who doesn't love a decorative bunting?
September 13, 2020 11:30 - 30 minutesIt's really late. The kind of late that keeps on getting later until it circles back round to early. When I'm this blurry and tired, I'm likely to say anything. Like how much more bearable life became on this ship with we busted Dr. Theo out of his pod. Geeky never looked so good.... See, now what did I say? Stop with the questions and the "oooo tell me everything" eyes. Dr. Theo is extremely fond of his personal space, and that's all there is to it. So shut up. I'm going to bed. You're liste...
episode forty-four: It's very hard to do science in this position
August 30, 2020 11:00 - 31 minutesIf you've been keeping up with the antics of that zany crew aboard the Oz 9- Have you ever considered taking up a REAL hobby? Like stamps or shuffleboard or knitting quilts or something? Or listening to Top of the Round, which is a much more sensible pastime? It's episode 44, and no one is any smarter than they were 43 episodes ago, and that includes you, since your brain is no doubt deteriorating at a much faster clip than it would have if you'd done Sudoku or whatever it is instead. Fine, g...
episode forty-three: Found their fillings in a compost pile
August 16, 2020 10:36 - 28 minutesPerhaps you've heard about the mold that's eating radioactive materials around Chernobyl? And that scientists are considering insulating spacecraft and astronauts suits with the stuff to protect them from solar radiation? We're not imagining things up here. We're just ahead of our time. You've been listening to: Shannon Perry as Madeline and Olivia David S. Dear as Dr. Theo Bromae Tim Sherburn as Colin Eric Perry as Joe, Mr. Southers, and Dr. von Haber Zetzer Richard Cowen as Leet and Ti...
episode forty-two: Escaping at a brisk walk
August 09, 2020 11:00 - 28 minutesSomething nefarious is happening on a golf course in French Lick, Indiana. Actually, several nefarious things. Well, OK, like, three... maybe four nefarious things, and then a whole bunch of naughty things. Look, we're losing the point here. Look, just listen to the episode. It'll be easier than me trying to explain it to you. You've been listening to: Aaron Clark as Ben and le Bichon Frise Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield Iri Alexander as Julie Richard Cowen as Tiberius and Leet Kevin Ha...
episode forty-one: My kidneys go straight to voice mail
July 19, 2020 11:01 - 27 minutesWelcome back, space monkeys! We hope you enjoyed your six-week excursion ashore. Watch your step, the gangplank is slippery and also there's no oxygen out here, so look lively. Take your seats, please; we'll be setting adrift...sorry, a-sail again soon. No eating, please; we just got the toilets clean. And listen up for the security announcement. JK, there's no security to be had here, but do listen to the trailer for the awesome Relativity Podcast that happens at the end of the episode. Now....

July 12, 2020 11:00 - 19 minutesIf you've ever wondered about our crew's lives before they got wrapped up in the drama of the Oz 9, well, keep wondering, because you're not going to learn a damn thing from this disaster of an episode. You're listening to: Eric Perry as Dr. von Haber Zetzer and Sarah Golding as pretty much everybody else. Except Richard Nadolny as the Narrator. Oz 9: The Season Two Crew
July 05, 2020 21:57 - 1 hourIf you think Oz 9 looks like chaos from the front, well, it's just as raggedy and unkempt 'round the back (if slightly less dangerous). In this bonus episode for our hiatus, our 4 newest cast members, David S. Dear, Sarah Golding, Kevin Hall, and Iri Alexander, gathered to talk about life as a voice actor and the swirling tornado of imminent doom that is existence aboard the Oz 9. We'll be back with our first episode of Season Three on July 19, 2020, so until then, Space Monkeys, stay silly. ...

episode forty: Be prepared to lose body hair
May 24, 2020 12:00 - 30 minutesIt's the end of Season 2, and our crew are still dumb, still in space, and still hovering at the edge of death. Thanks to all the zig zagging around the galaxy, they're nearly back where they started, and the forniculator still hasn't been fixed. So, if you've been with us for the past 39 episodes, well, you probably could have skipped this bit. Let's hope Season 3 is better. In Season 2, you heard from: Iri Alexander as Julie Bonnie Brantley as Donna and Jessie Aaron Clark as le Bichon Fr...
episode thirty-nine: From last cluck to a bucket of extra crispy
May 10, 2020 11:00 - 27 minutesEpisode 39 means one more until the end of Season 2, and where we're going is no clearer than the muck at the bottom of the bioswamp. But hey, you've gotten this far, you might as well stick with us a little longer. Eventually, it'll all make sense. Or not. Probably not. You've been listening to: Bonnie Brantley as Jessie Kevin Hall as Greg and Felonius Eric Perry as Joe, Dr. von Haber-Zetzer, Mr. Southers, and Howard Iri Alexander as Julie David S. episode thirty-eight: I forgot to untie the technician
April 26, 2020 14:49 - 32 minutesLook, I've been up all night, and seriously the first person to speak to me may find themselves trying to pour coffee into a stump. Like, where their head used to be, not a tree, that was supposed to be sort of threatening and scary. Never mind. Make sure you listen right to the end as there's treats and stuff you won't want to miss. Oh, and Head 1 finally gets a name. It's ... epic. Really. April 12, 2020 15:29 - 27 minutesDespite Joe's best attempts to keep the Oz 9 free of ... icky things, a very large, armed, and presumably hostile icky thing has taken over the bridge. This has just been one of those space voyages, hasn't it? You're listening to: Iri Alexander as Julie Bonnie Brantley as Jessie Aaron Clark as le Bichon Frise Eric Perry as Joe, Head 1, and Dr. von Haber Zetzer Richard Cowen as Leet and Tiberius June Clark Eubanks as the Albatros Shannon Perry as Olivia and Madeline Kevin Hall as Greg...
