Summer, 2000 - Los Angeles.  Staples Center. Traffic.  Police playing Whack-a-mole with protesters.  Clashes, with rubber bullets, pepper spray, and arrests.  60 protesters are jailed. They refuse to give up their names to be charged, so the police wouldn't let them out. Howard Gluck, Deputy City Attorney, talked with them in jail until 4 am. They agreed to reveal their names and Mr. Gluck dropped their misdemeanor charges to infractions, waiving their fines. Everyone got their slice of the pie.
