In Search of the Crystal Skull Episode 28: The Little Mermaid (2023)

In this special bonus episode of In Search of the Crystal Skull, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2023 film The Little Mermaid, a live action remake of the 1989 animated Disney film of the same name. Ariel, a young mermaid, falls in love with a prince named Eric who lives in the surface. Her father King Triton forbids her from going to the surface and prefers she stays in the ocean with him and her older sisters. An evil witch named Ursula wishes to get revenge on King Triton by tricking Ariel into joining her when she offers to turn her into a human for three days so she could get to Eric. The catch is, she cannot speak and she has amnesia. Will Ariel convince Eric to fall in love with her before it's too late?

When the film premiered in theaters, it made over $569 million dollars on a $200 million dollar budget. It had mixed to positive reviews praising Halley Bailey as Ariel, the new songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and adding necessary updates to a classic film.
