In today’s episode we discover how to tap into your innate gift that is “creative genius,” and why it is essential to your well being.  Creativity flows freely through every human being, yet we unwittingly place blocks on this flow of genius in response to the sting of criticism or belittlement we may have experienced early in our life.  These blocks act as a “defense mechanism” against future criticism, but their unfortunate long-term impact hinders our ability to simply enjoying the freedom of expression and its therapeutic benefits.

TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS PODCAST EPISODE: You were born a “creative genius.” Nurturing creativity is essential. Making a mess is actually less of a mess than we perceive. Work with your children to foster and encourage healing through creativity. Creativity is a coping mechanism; embrace it. Let go of the final construct and allow the creativity itself to be the goal. Creativity is a form of self care. Creativity is not just nice to have or a necessity; it is essential! JENNY CAVENAUGH-BOND SAID:

“We convince ourselves that we can’t be creative.”

“Creativity isn’t the end product; creativity is the process of creating”

“When you start to realize that creativity is the process that changes everything.”

“Don’t just write it down; write it down and then paint over it.  You change the story by physically painting over it.”

“We never stop really working through our emotions. It’s never a done process.”

“Instead of retreating into themselves, the kids are chucking it all on paper, they’re happy. . .”

BOOKS YOU SHOULD READ

As a bookworm, just one is very difficult for me - so, I’ve chosen a fiction and a non-fiction book! My  fiction choice is Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Series (ok, so it’s more than one book, but there is no way I can choose from over 30 books that make up the series!)

Non-fiction has to be Tara Mohr - Playing Big. This opened a world of possibilities and helped me to take my own advice.
