New Hope Soap - February 21, 2023 To all those who receive the SOAP devotional, During Lent, instead of doing our typical SOAP note, we will be sending out a specific Lenten devotional. These will be available in a text and audio version. There will be a Scripture, some reflection, and prayer. I hope you enjoy it! After Lent, I am encouraging all of our SOAP subscribers to sign up for Wake-up Call, a daily devotional produced by Seedbed, the publishing arm of Asbury Seminary. Wake-up Call includes daily Scripture, reflection, prayer, and questions. It’s designed to help us reorient our lives around loving Jesus. Could there be anything better? Many of us at New Hope already receive Wake-up Call in our email every morning. Reading this together as a church family will be unifying and provide us with common language. Recently, there has been a focus on awakening and revival, particularly with the events at Asbury University. To register for Wake-up Call, go to seedbed.com and scroll down the page. You will find a place to add your name and email. I have personally felt led to take a sabbatical from writing the SOAP. It has been a blessing for me these past couple years to have this daily practice and I have benefited from the regular rhythm of reading, praying, reflecting, and writing. However, it also takes a great deal of time. It’s time for me to simply take a break from this particular writing venture and maybe try some different kinds of writing projects. In the meantime, I think we will all benefit from the daily encouragement of Wake-up Call. I appreciate your understanding. I will close this note with some of my favorite Scripture about the power of God’s Word. Hebrews 4:12, For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Keep reading, keep praying, and keep allowing God’s Word to change you from the inside out!!! Blessings, Pastor Vicki . https://www.findnewhope.com Our staff and leadership employ what's called the “S.O.A.P. Method”. It stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Each day, we read one or two chapters of Scripture and focus on one particular verse. We make some observations about how that verse touches us, discern how it applies to our lives, and offer a prayer related to what we have read. - Rev.
