Adam and Eve dwell in the same garden, they are close, but they also are distant relationally in their Fig Leaf cover up. What is interesting is God comes to investigate and asks Adam, who by the way is hiding, “Where are you Adam?” It’s a probing question. It’s a question that demands that Adam open up and communicate on a deeper level, but he doesn’t. He says, I hid because I was afraid and then diverts the problem to the woman who God gave him.” Adam has shut down. He has covered up. He is hiding. And now he tells God, “Don’t ask me any questions, go talk to that woman you gave me.” Open honest trusting communication is eroded, which always erodes closeness.
