ROUND 1 RECAP

Not a lot of surprises, as most of the favorites advanced to Round 2. Margins of victory tended to be comfortable, with very few tight contests!

The Villains division featured some of our strongest match-ups. Returning GOAT The Joker notched his first kill, taking out Ron's Villain GOAT The Matrix A.I. OG arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty took down one of his biggest imitators in Bane, and Skeletor wiped the floor with the more obscure The Four from the comic Planetary. It will be interesting to see how the likes of Skeletor and Joker fare against the murderers' row of Top Seeds in this division: Magneto, Darkseid, Darth Vader and Thanos!

Rogues & Anti-Heroes saw Round 1's only real close match, as Harry Potter's Severus Snape weaseled his way past Ghost Rider with 52% of the vote. The Nerd GOAT crew was also happy to see Mad Max deliver a handy butt-whupping to Boba Fett, even if we have our doubts about his chances in Round 2 vs. Deadpool. The X-Men notched Round 1's second-largest margin of victory with 85% over Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII, and they may have the easiest schedule so far as they prepare to face off against...Donald Duck?!

Powerless Icons broke Ed and Ron's hearts, as KITT was eliminated handily by Mulan, earning only 30% of the total vote. In a match-up that surprised absolutely no one, John McClane trounced Anne of Green Gables with 81% of the vote, which is really too bad – there's an argument to be made that Anne's the better character! The same kind of disheartening TKO actually leads off the next division...

Raw Power gave us our biggest blowout of the Tournament so far, with Thor destroying Savage Dragon, earning an insane 92% of your votes! Where our 90s kids at?! Sure, Thor serves up cinematic beefcake, but Dragon has been perfectly merging ultraviolence, T&A and cosmic weirdness for more than 25 years! Show the finhead some love. Storm also made a strong showing with 75% of her vote, while an F4 match-up saw Reed Richards fall to the Silver Surfer!
