In this episode, Josh and Ian continue their series on "isms" and discuss the history, philosophy, and contemporary applications of skepticism and cynicism. They begin discussing why intellectual skepticism is so important for the podcast's mantra, then move into clarifying modern definitions that highlight the skeptical attitude. They follow the historical development of the philosophy of skepticism, its influence on the development of Enlightenment ideals and of science, how illusions about the world trick the mind, the job of science and the use of scientific language, and how postmodernity has changed they way we view the world, truth, and objectivity. Then they move into the philosophical history of ancient Cynicism.

To contrast cynicism with skepticism, they explain the development of cynicism by delving into its practiced tenets, the life of Diogenes of Sinope, critiques of society, its influence of Stoicism, and the confusion of skepticism with cynicism. To wrap up their conversation, Josh and Ian speak about where we find skepticism and cynicism the most applicable in society, politics, and culture.
