Donald Heller is Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and a professor of education at the University of San Francisco. Before USF however, Dr. Heller served in positions as professor of education at Penn State University, and then Dean of the College of Education at Michigan State University. And it is with the perspective of his experience at those two institutions that he penned “After Michigan State: Could We Be Next?”, an article published as part of the Chronicle of Higher Education’s series, “The Larry Nassar Scandal and the the Fall of Michigan State’s President.
Dr. Heller joins us today to talk about his unique perspective on both the Penn State and Michigan tragedies as we try to come to terms with how we as leaders in education can better prepare our institutions for the worst case scenario — a scenario for which we have such limited experience in facing head-on.
