Stella Spanakos is the founder of the nonprofit organization the Nicholas Center and three social enterprises called Spectrum Designs, Spectrum Bakes, and Spectrum Suds, where 60% of the staff are individuals with Autism.

Stella created the Nicholas Center to offer life-skills programming, vocational skills training, and supported employment to her son Nicholas and other adults on the spectrum like him because the needs of autistic adults were not being met.

Stella and I talk about the expansion and growth that the Nicholas Center and the three enterprises have seen in recent years and how innovative programs are meeting the needs of autistic adults and the local communities in New York State.

Stella shares how she experienced grief at the beginning of the autism parenting journey and the pivotal moment that snapped her out of her self-pity so she could move forward to help her son Nicholas.

She also gives practical advice on employment and 5 necessary things you must do for your sanity on your autism parenting journey.

Listen to this episode and find out what they are and get inspired by her powerful words of wisdom and encouragement.

Enjoy!
