B.C.'s Harbour Air has become the first company in the world to successfully test a commercial electric plane with a smooth takeoff and landing yesterday in Richmond.

CEO Greg McDougall piloted the retrofitted Beaver and says it was just like flying any other plane, except with a bit more kick.

The seaplane company has partnered with Seattle-based engineering firm magniX, which designed the 750-horsepower electric engine for the test flight.

Harbour Air hopes to welcome passengers aboard electric flights within two years.
