This week is Thanksgiving week in the United States, so I thought it fitting to make today’s episode all about GRATITUDE.  When was the last time you intentionally thought about all you were grateful for?  Do you find gratitude challenging to cultivate?  Sometimes this can be the case when we feel like life is consistently bringing us down.  It feels easier to gravitate towards thoughts and feelings that are victim-based and indulgent – it’s these kinds of autopilot thoughts and beliefs that feel more familiar, and therefore more safe.  This is not our fault.  This naturally happens, often in early childhood, when we mimic the attitudes and beliefs of the caretakers in our lives.  If our caretakers happened to be anxious, negligent, withdrawn, or otherwise unavailable, then we often unconsciously repeat these patterns of conditioning as a way to attract their attention, even long after we move away from them.  So one way we can break the chains of our familial conditioning, is to begin to anchor the energy of gratitude.

We can begin by looking for, in each moment, all the little things that we might be grateful for, and if we find that it’s difficult to find anything in the moment, then we can also anchor that same grateful energy by WISHING we were grateful for our lives, our bodies, and our circumstances.

For example:

I wish I felt more grateful about my body

I wish I felt more grateful for the world

I wish I felt more grateful for politics

I wish I felt more grateful for humanity

I wish I felt more grateful for my family

I wish I felt more grateful for civilization

I wish I felt more grateful for reality

I wish I felt more grateful for the universe

And slowly, with practice, we can discover that we are feeling naturally more grateful for the experiences of life and we can eventually stop wishing, and begin anchoring true, authentic feelings of appreciation.

I end today’s episode with a little meditation to begin to find examples of how our body has given us gifts to be grateful for, and hope that you can begin to find it in your power to bring more love and appreciation for your beautiful body into your daily experience.

I also always think about THIS video when I think about gratitude – it makes me cry each time I watch it.
