When it comes to any goals, there are always excuses of why a goal shouldn’t be done or why a goal can’t be reach. Think of goals like habits. Creating a habit takes more than one day. It takes more than a week. A habit will usually take about 30 days before it becomes part of your routine.

A great resource tool on creating a habit is the book “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg.

When it comes to excuses, these are just a few that I have heard.

A. You don’t know my family.
B. You don’t understand my circumstances
C. I live in reality
D. Why bother
E. It’s never gonna to happen anyway.
F. That’s for dreamers
G. You’re joking
H. It’s too hard.
I. I can barely what I have now.
J. I can’t do it
K. I don’t make enough money
L. There’s not enough money at the end of the month

When it comes to budgets and setting goals, never let your current circumstance define your future. If you never attempt to change your situation, you will always be where you are today tomorrow and five years with nothing changing in your life.

You should always have a monthly budget so that you know where your money is coming from and where you money is going out for expenses.

I have people tell me that they can’t do it. My response is “Why not?” Is it because of income? Do you have too much debt? Is it your job?

When I first moved to Tennessee, I left my family in Arkansas to come to Tennessee to work because I couldn’t find a job in Northwest Arkansas. Sometimes, you have to go where the jobs are when there is no jobs to be found in your current area.

In other words, always be prepared to start over by looking for opportunities that present themselves. The same could be said about fear. Never let your fear keep you from living your dream. Be willing to take the risks in life that are rewarding.

Examples of things you can do to advance your career and knowledge are:

1. Read books and magazines.
2. Become an expert
3. Go back to school
4. Keep learning a new skill
5. Set goals and put it on a calendar
6. Make it happen
