Today on the Mile after Mile Podcast is Stephen Del Monte of DelMo sports.

Before he was a race director Stephen Del Monte was a triathlete. We talk about what he looked for in a race and why he decided to transition from a participant to a race director.

Stephen very kindly gives us a behind the scenes view into his life and what it takes to produce his series of races in the Southern New Jersey - Philadelphia area including where the name DelMo sports comes from.

We take a quick digression to discuss how cute of a town Cape May is in New Jersey.

Tri the Wildwoods was Del Mo Sports first race. Now they have a full calendar with 8 events owned and operated with participation of over 2000 people including an all women’s triathlon called Philadelphia Women’s Triathlon , Escape the Cape and Atlantic City 70.3. DelMo Sports also supports 40-50 other sport events as timing, and other service or supporting roles.

We specifically talk about how the Escape the Cape triathlon race came to be including the Mrs. Delmo litmus test.  Escape the Cape triathlon begins with a signature event which is a 12 foot jump into the water off the Cape May Ferry.

The other signature events that we discuss include the Philadelphia Women’s Triathlon and he shares what makes that so special. This race takes place at Fairmount Park an all women’s field of 1600 participants including 800 first time racers.

The final race on the DelMo sports roster that we chat about is the Atlantic City 70.3 and how that came to be first as a part of Challenge Family and then later as an Ironman 70.3.

Del Monte shares how he has partnered with bigger race companies like Challenge Family and Ironman / World Triathlon Corporation.
