Come, Holy Spirit! Fill the hearts of your faithful people, and kindle in us the fire of your love. Alleluia! On Pentecost, we focus on the Holy Spirit and how God poured out his Holy Spirit, giving birth to the Christian church. Yet the Holy Spirit’s work of creating and strengthening faith is not carried out through dreams or visions or indigestion, but rather through physical means, specifically the Word of God. Yet how is that Word more than just a book full of promises? The Holy Spirit empowers that Word to breathe life into our dead hearts. The Holy Spirit empowers that Word to maintain and strengthen faith. Through that Word, the Holy Spirit remains in us all our lives. So today we give thanks for the Spirit’s work through the Word!

The Bible reading for this message is Ezekiel 37:1-14.
