Lois Burwell, Academy Award-Winning Make-up Artist

For more than thirty years, you’ve loved the incredible creations and stories she’s helped bring to life on the big screen. As a world-renowned makeup artist she’s worked on more than forty feature films, including movies like The Princess Bride, The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Fifth Element, Lincoln, and Ready Player One just to name a few, and with directors like Mel Gibson, Brian De Palma, Cameron Crowe, Luc Besson and Steven Spielberg.

She won the Academy Award for Best Makeup for her work on Braveheart and was nominated for a second Oscar for Saving Private Ryan.

But makeup is just one of her life’s passions. She’s also an animal lover who raises her own group of furry friends, and today, in addition to her continued work in Hollywood, volunteers her time serving as both a Governor for the Makeup and Hairstylists Branch, as well as the Vice President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.  There she helps with a slue of wonderful programs. And did I mention that she’s just a fantastically nice person?
