Our first podcast to celebrate small business in the local area starts off with a bang. Lydia is the owner/director of Northshore Academy of Dance.

Lydia opened Northshore Academy of Dance in 1995 with the dream of sharing her passion and knowledge of dance through discipline, positive reinforcement, and a genuine care for the students and families she was blessed to work with. It was her goal to encourage every student to find their personal love for dance and to utilize the skills she had to offer not just in the studio, but in everyday life, as individuals learning to make choices, deciding on priorities, and shaping a future for their mental and physical health. Lydia has successfully created a means of making a difference through the art of dance in these last 25 years!

Lydia’s achievements and experience are quite impressive. She has been dancing for over 44 years. Born and raised in Covington, she was always involved in dance within the community and her school. She was captain of the Covington High Dancin’ Darlin’s and continued in a leadership role as she served as captain of USM’s Dixie Darlings for three of the four years she was a member of this college dance team. Lydia was also a member of USM’s Southern Misses Basketball Dance Team. In addition, Lydia has choreographed, taught and performed for dance conferences and concerts along with worldwide events including locations such as Austria, England, Bermuda, Bahamas and throughout the entire United States. Lydia was involved with many NFL Super Bowl pregame and half-time performances as well. She has coached and choreographed for Tulane University’s dance team, Shockwave, in addition to working with many local high school dance teams. Many of NAD’s former students are on college and professional dance teams.

This podcast talks about her first marketing campaign, why she started her dance studio, and how she has been able to adjust her business with the changing cultures.
