What is cortisol and where is it made? Cortisol is produced by our adrenal glands, a tiny little triangular-shaped gland on top of our kidneys that also secrete several other stress hormones. Cortisol works with certain parts of our brain to control things like our moods, motivation, fear, it is a steroid hormone, and it is one of the most powerful stress hormones. It is also the hormone that governs hunger, cravings, digestion, blood pressure, or sleep, sleep-wake patterns, physical activity, our capacity to cope with stress, weight gain in the midsection, it also can boost energy, so you can handle stress and restore balance afterward.
