Sometimes when we see people behaving out of character, our first instinct is to judge what’s happening on the surface. Did you watch the 2022 Oscars last weekend? What were your thoughts about how Will Smith reacted towards Chris Rock? It was totally out of character for how he conducts himself publicly, that’s for sure.

But it’s not an unusual reaction, especially when a person is having a trauma response.

On this week’s episode of the Make More Money as a Dietitian Podcast, Christine provides a neuroscience perspective on Will’s actions, because most of us will judge the event based on what we see happening on the surface. She also talks about how you can start cultivating higher quality thoughts, so you’re not just reacting to triggers, but taking action towards what you desire in your life and career as a dietitian.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE Why the Oscar “slap down” had little to do with defending Jada Pinkett-Smith.  The sequence of brain events that happened for Will as a result of the inappropriate joke. The importance of being more trauma-sensitive by not casting jokes on other people’s insecurities. Two ways to think higher-quality thoughts of your own, so you can experience more positive results in life & work.
