It's not always the case that I've seen my guests on the television before I get to speak with them but as a fan of BBC2's The Mash Report, I had already seen and been entertained by the talented Mr Steven Allen.

It was fascinating to hear that Steve never used to think he was funny and ended up following a different path initially but we can all be very glad he found his funny bone and has been busy making people laugh ever since.

Since lockdown, Steve started up a podcast called 'Comics Solving Problems' because, well, why not? With Steve's scientific background and analytical approach, who better to be taking on the problems of the world? You can get a taster of Steve's humour on this show, what makes things funny, how Steve puts his material together for stand up and more besides.

A very enjoyable chat with a funny guy and you can find The Mash Report on BBC's Player service if you're in the UK. You can find Steve's podcast and when comedy gigs are a thing again, I recommend getting yourself along.
