The LSU Tigers win their tenth game of the 2023 season after taking down the Wisconsin Badgers 35-31 in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa Bay on New Year's Day. The Tigers' Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jayden Daniels opted out of the bowl game as he prepares for the NFL, so it was third year sophomore Garrett Nussmeier who got the starting nod for the first time in his career at LSU. Nussmeier and the Tigers offense had a slow start, punting on three of their first four possessions and falling behind 14-0 early against the Badgers, but Nussmeier remained poised and calm and led the Tigers to a comeback capped by a 98-yard touchdown drive on LSU's final possession of the game.

Nussmeier ended the day completing 31 of his 45 passing attempts for 395 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. It was a different look from LSU's offense without Daniels as his greatest weapon was his legs. Nussmeier, however, is not nearly as elusive or quick as Daniels and relied more on the running back core to move the football on the ground. While it was different, it was a good day for the LSU quarterback.
