The Athletic's rundown of team season previews is almost over. Releasing one preview a day starting with the worst team in the league (Arizona Coyotes) and concluding with what the model believes is the best team. The Colorado Avalanche preview was released yesterday, and they have them at #3.

The only teams left are the Calgary Flames and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

#3 is nothing to scoff at. But being a Stanley Cup champion, sometimes you get the feeling the Avs should be ranked at #1 in everything. While they will be high on whatever list we are talking about, it's not a given they will land at #1 thanks to losses like Nazem Kadri, Andre Burakovski, and Darcy Kuemper.

We also take a look at if your usual starters should be playing more in the preseason. The NHL season is long, so it isn't necessary to play your stars in every preseason game. But should the NHL adopt an NFL style of preseason, where your everyday starters can play a period, then are done for the day while the prospects take over? Seems like a good idea.
