The Christmas season is considered “the most wonderful time of the year.” And yet, it can also bring up enormous grief and reminders of loss as a song comes on the radio, the smells in the air remind us of what was. Living Wholehearted means we bring all of who we are to our lives, including the pain of our stories. We have the privilege of listening to Stan and Lori Thomas, as they share about how they are making it through the loss of their child. After losing their daughter, Aimee Brooke Thomas in 2013 to a car accident, they started a ministry called Hope for Grief. Lori is a singer/songwriter and Stan is now a mortgage broker, after 18 years in full-time pastoral ministry. The have been married 40 years and live in Eugene, Oregon. Though many marriages don’t make it through the loss of a child due to the sheer overwhelming grief, Stan and Lori want to help marriages survive one of the hardest losses anyone can face. Stan and Lori remind us that though we may never fix this kind of grief and “get over it”, we can learn how to move through it and find hope again. As Stan would say, “Don’t give up” and as Lori would say, “Find your trusted circle to help you grieve well”.
