Karen Considine was born and brought up in rural Southern Ireland and it was a lack of family money that lead to Karen leaving Ireland to become an au pair in Paris. A love of languages and adventure resulted in Karen joining the Polo circuit, a career that spanned 30 years and took her to countries all around the world.

A second career in travel journalism took off when Karen had to leave behind the world of Polo due to injury and, following the death of her mother, Karen decided that southern Spain was the place where she was most likely to be able to afford to buy a house, and she pitched up in Gaucin.

Earlier this year, Karen and a couple of horses, decided to retrace the journey through Andalucia taken in 1961 by Penelope Chetwode the wife of poet John Betjeman, and Karen is now writing an account of her adventures.
