A lifestyle TV programme inspired Alan Cuthbertson to persuade his family to leave everything behind in the UK for a new life in Spain. By his own admission, Alan is impulsive and this probably stems from a childhood during which he suffered from chronic illness. In fact, Alan’s health was so bad during his early school years that doctors feared he would not live beyond his teens.

Alan took up karate to tackle his ill-health, and credits his fitness regime with the life he is able to lead to this day. Despite a poor education, he worked hard and established his own business with his wife, Heather. Seeing an aerobatics display resulted in Alan taking up flying, and he was on his way to becoming a commercial airplane pilot before his move to Spain.

Aged 45, the intention was to retire here in Andalucia, but Alan has subsequently written two books with a third due to be published.
