Have you ever considered how to create your own job, instead of just applying for them?

That’s how Derek Magill got his current job as head of marketing for Praxis.

It’s a 12-month startup apprenticeship program for young people who are seeking alternative ways of launching their career.

By the end of this interview he’s going to give you a lot of advice about how to create your own job, so listen up!

Derek is a college drop out turned entrepreneurial employee. How he built and developed his career provides insights for how you need to rethink how you manage your own career.

It’s not longer about landing a job, it’s about pitching your skills to a company that didn’t’ even realize they needed them.

There are a ton of great lessons packed into this episode including:

Why Derek dropped out of college and how he taught himself marketing skills.
How he created his own position at Praxis.
Why resumes are dead.
How to practice the preparation mindset.

Quick side note, I was invited to be a guest speaker for some Praxis students to teach them about the importance of developing a self-awareness practice and I’m so appreciative for the opportunity to hang with them!
