What do you do if the very thing you were called to do in life were taken away? Today, I chat with guest Chantal Aston on how she was able to create her new normal after her life took a different direction.

Her husband was killed in a tragic accident leaving her to live life as a single mom with a 5-year-old daughter. But despite it all, she survived and later thrived. Today, she appreciates life and challenges us to do the same.

Chantal Aston began wowing audiences in the early 1990’s with her rich and smoky alto voice, performing regular club dates in the vibrant Queen St. West area, home to Toronto’s dynamic arts and music scene. Aston quickly made her way on to some of Toronto’s premier clubs, like the Top of the Senator (now Jazz Bistro) and has shared the stage with some of Canada’s most beloved jazz heavyweights such as the late Moe Koffman, Bernie Senensky, Archie Alleyne, Ed Bickert, Joe Sealy and many others.

Deeply rooted in jazz and blues, Ms. Aston’s earliest musical influence comes from her mother June Harris, an accomplished pianist, vocalist and entertainer from Chicago. It would come as is no surprise that Aston would eventually find herself and her place in the world of music.
