Life's a Wreck

138 episodes - English - Latest episode: 5 months ago - ★★★★★ - 1 rating

Mental health isn't just mental illness, it's in everything we do. There are ups and downs, it's beautiful and messy, and at the end of the day, life's a wreck. Thing is, that wreck is what makes us 'US' and isn't that worth celebrating? A layered and rich wreck of emotions, nuance and stories, all culminating in very human experiences. We believe that conversations surrounding mental health deserve to leave the tall shadow of stigma and have their moment in the limelight. Life's a Wreck aims to be a museum of mental health, a parlour to the people, a place to celebrate all things mental, curating the stories of others and examining a world hidden behind stigma with a joyous curiosity and passion for storytelling. Join Kyle Moore around our proverbial campfire to share stories about the world we live in looked at through the lens of mental health. This is Life's a Wreck.

Ep85: Building through Authenticity Ft. Mid-Day Squares Co-Fouder Jake Karls

November 25, 2023 15:54 - 51 minutes - 515 MB

Authenticity, what a can of worms. A beautiful gift of self acceptance, an appreciation of the wreck that you are and something that we for some reason forgo in the face of formality. Since working for a startup accelerator I've been privy to an entrepreneurial mindset of needing to build at the sake of authenticity. Be what you think an employer or partner wants you to be, hide your personality for the sake of your venture, "I aM a BuSInESS pErSoN." The examples go on and on and what I find...

Ep84: Stacking Wins and Failing to Success Ft. Max Browne

October 27, 2023 18:46 - 45 minutes - 104 MB

Gratitude is a powerful facilitator of wellness. It also helps us grow and learn from moments where we fall short or stumble along our journeys. Today on Life's a Wreck, I sit down with content creator and former #1 football recruit in all of America, Max Browne, to celebrate failure, the power of a growth mindset and identity. Our conversation has something for everyone but make sure to share with an athlete in your life. Max's wisdom is something every young person who dreams of competing ...

Ep83: Canada, Let's Get Connected! Ft. GenWell Founder Pete Bombaci

October 06, 2023 14:00 - 43 minutes - 29.6 MB

When I mention "health," what comes to mind? The terms "physical health" or "mental health" ( I mean, you're listening to a mental health podcast, so I can imagine that one might pop up quite quickly) hitting the gym, eating well, doctors? Great words, but I'm curious: did the terms "social, connections or relationships" cross your mind? Often overlooked, studies have shown time and again that one of the most important overall contributors to general wellness, regardless of nationality, back...

Happy Friday Wrecks! Hope you've been doing well. If you're looking for some local recovery resources and mental health support, check out the link below: https://novascotia.ca/storm-support/#flooding This week on the podcast, I'm joined by my friend Joel Kaskinen who has supported me and the podcast since our early days ...

Ep80: The Art of Resiliency Ft. Entrepreneur Brice Scheschuk

July 14, 2023 12:00 - 46 minutes - 31.6 MB

Today we dive into the murky waters of one of the most common phrases in the wellness vernacular: Resiliency. We often talk about being resilient, but what do we really mean? Is resiliency to be unfeeling? Does it mean never giving up? Are resiliency and anti-fragility the same thing? What does it look like in the context of teams and organizations? How can I be more resilient? All of the many nuances of the word are explored by the team at MindFrame Connect and their Co-Founder, today's gue...

Ep79: 4 Lessons From 4 Years of Podcasting

July 07, 2023 12:00 - 28 minutes - 19.5 MB

WE'RE 4, WRECKS!💅🚀🤷‍♂️😶‍🌫️🍻🤔👑🌊📈🥳 What a disaster. Somehow we've begged, borrowed, and stolen our way to 79 podcasts since July 5th, 2019. During this time, I graduated from university, we survived a pandemic, I flamed out on reality tv, went on mental health medication, got off mental health medication, talked to thousands of people about my story, have spent approximately 435 hours editing episodes, and made some amazing memories along the way. With these fourrible (lol nice) years under my...

Ep78: Living with Anxiety and the Impact of Sharing Authentically Ft. CTV News Host Ana Almeida

June 16, 2023 10:00 - 1 hour - 45 MB

That idea of "putting on a mask" to hide your pain is something so many of us are familiar with, but when your job requires you to stand in front of a camera and perform at your best day in and day out, that term takes on a whole new meaning.  I'm really excited to share this conversation with all of you today. Today's guest, CTV's Ana Almeida, and I met on a Movember walk back in 2021, and after hearing about her experiences as a person living with Anxiety and how she's used her platform ...

Ep77: Can't Buy More Time, Healing From Childhood Trauma and Sexual Violence at Any Age Ft. Entrepreneur and Researcher Michael DeVenney

June 02, 2023 11:00 - 54 minutes - 37.6 MB

I imagine this episode to be best enjoyed while on a long walk, drive or curled up with a warm beverage. Today's conversation is one of authenticity, vulnerability, pain and beauty. Michael DeVenney is a friend of the show and an amazing advocate for the space where mental health and entrepreneurship intersect. I was blessed to be invited to Michael's beautiful home to share this conversation. I was introduced to Michael's work when we collaborated on a presentation for youth entrepreneurs, ...

Ep76: Family Ties, A Conversation about Change, Grief, and Mindset Ft. My Sister Caitlyn Moore

May 19, 2023 14:00 - 55 minutes - 38.3 MB

Conversations like the one you'll hear today are why I started the podcast. The opportunity to sit down and learn more about the people you know the most is such a gift. Today on the pod, I'm joined by my little sister, Caitlyn Moore, to talk about the transitional point she's at in her life as a recent graduate (almost, she just needs to throw the cap, so close enough). The conversation branched out into a look into her past year and the dynamics surrounding handling change, healing from tr...

75 Episodes! A really amazing milestone. Thank you so much for your love and support over the past four years, you beautiful wrecks. It hasn't been pretty, but it's been ours. I can't think of any better way to celebrate than with a conversation with one of my favourite podcasters, Brian Stever. Brian is a mental health advocate and a bonafide storyteller. As co-host of the Sickboy Podcast, he helps break down the stigma surrounding illness by fostering honest conversations like the one we ha...

Welcome back to Life's a Wreck (it's been a minute). I've been working on this podcast for the past five months and finally get to share it with all of you. S5E11: A Lesson in Living Ft. Big Brother Canada Legend Martin Frenette

May 20, 2022 17:00 - 55 minutes - 38.4 MB

I had a tough time coming up with a name for this episode because of all that Marty and I chatted about. However, I think what strikes me the most is that this man has gone through some really tough times and still continues to seek out life's challenges, face them head-on, and embodies the idea of embracing the wreck. So this truly is simply a lesson in living.  Martin Frenette is a fraud investigation, author, father, hockey coach, and role model for men everywhere simply in how he active...

WE'RE BAAAAACK BAAAABY! Welcome back to Life's a Wreck everyone! As many of you may know I recently participated in the most recent season of Big Brother Canada. In this episode, I break down my mental state leading up to the house, in the house and then after I was evicted. This experience is one I'll be processing for a while so this episode provides a sounding-off point, a benchm...
