Life's a Wreck

226 episodes - English - Latest episode: 5 days ago - ★★★★★ - 1 rating

Mental health isn't just mental illness, it's in everything we do. There are ups and downs, it's beautiful and messy, and at the end of the day, life's a wreck. Thing is, that wreck is what makes us 'US' and isn't that worth celebrating? A layered and rich wreck of emotions, nuance and stories, all culminating in very human experiences. We believe that conversations surrounding mental health deserve to leave the tall shadow of stigma and have their moment in the limelight. Life's a Wreck aims to be a museum of mental health, a parlour to the people, a place to celebrate all things mental, curating the stories of others and examining a world hidden behind stigma with a joyous curiosity and passion for storytelling. Join Kyle Moore around our proverbial campfire to share stories about the world we live in looked at through the lens of mental health. This is Life's a Wreck.

The Hero's Mindset Ft. Paralympian Kevin Rempel

June 27, 2024 10:00 - 57 minutes - 132 MB

What does it mean to be a hero? This week on the podcast we answer that question. I'm thrilled to be joined by Canadian Paralympic sledge hockey athlete Kevin Rempel to discuss the mindset that has helped him overcome unthinkable odds. A living testament to the power of the mind and positive thinking, Kevin was once told he would never walk again following a motocross accident in his early 20s. Around the same time, Kevin also lost his father to suicide. During our conversation, Kevin reveal...

This Episode is Perfection(ism) Ft. Dr. Simon Sherry

June 06, 2024 09:30 - 47 minutes - 108 MB

For years of my life, I thought the standard was perfection. Everything I did, I felt I had to do perfectly. I craved to be the perfect son, boyfriend, student, and athlete, I wanted to be flawless and when a flaw presented itself I resented it. I thought perfection would lead to fulfillment. Sound familiar? Well, colour me fuc*ing pink when I one day woke up and came to the realization that PERFECTION ISN'T REAL and that the search for "perfect" had only ever left me in shambles. Perfection...

Is It All Just a Game?! Sex, Love and Relationships Part 2

May 16, 2024 10:46 - 47 minutes - 110 MB

Alas it was a very somber day in Halifax Nova Scotia, grey and gloomy. I sat in my expiring office chair the faux leather flaking onto the floor. I had just finished my interview with Booby Temps, a brilliant flourish of a man, the second hosts of Dating Games and my old friend. I had interviewed his cohost Stephanie Foster earlier in the week and now as I stared at the white "this Zoom has ended" screen, frozen in my mental wreckage trying to grapple with how I would edit this podcast I sat...

Ep85: Building through Authenticity Ft. Mid-Day Squares Co-Fouder Jake Karls

November 25, 2023 15:54 - 51 minutes - 515 MB

Authenticity, what a can of worms. A beautiful gift of self acceptance, an appreciation of the wreck that you are and something that we for some reason forgo in the face of formality. Since working for a startup accelerator I've been privy to an entrepreneurial mindset of needing to build at the sake of authenticity. Be what you think an employer or partner wants you to be, hide your personality for the sake of your venture, "I aM a BuSInESS pErSoN." The examples go on and on and what I find...

Canada, Let's Get Connected! Ft. GenWell Founder Pete Bombaci

October 06, 2023 14:00 - 43 minutes - 29.6 MB

When I mention "health," what comes to mind? The terms "physical health" or "mental health" ( I mean, you're listening to a mental health podcast, so I can imagine that one might pop up quite quickly) hitting the gym, eating well, doctors? Great words, but I'm curious: did the terms "social, connections or relationships" cross your mind? Often overlooked, studies have shown time and again that one of the most important overall contributors to general wellness, regardless of nationality, back...

Ep80: The Art of Resiliency Ft. Entrepreneur Brice Scheschuk

July 14, 2023 12:00 - 46 minutes - 31.6 MB

Today we dive into the murky waters of one of the most common phrases in the wellness vernacular: Resiliency. We often talk about being resilient, but what do we really mean? Is resiliency to be unfeeling? Does it mean never giving up? Are resiliency and anti-fragility the same thing? What does it look like in the context of teams and organizations? How can I be more resilient? All of the many nuances of the word are explored by the team at MindFrame Connect and their Co-Founder, today's gue...

July 07, 2023 12:00 - 28 minutes - 19.5 MB

WE'RE 4, WRECKS!💅🚀🤷‍♂️😶‍🌫️🍻🤔👑🌊📈🥳 What a disaster. Somehow we've begged, borrowed, and stolen our way to 79 podcasts since July 5th, 2019. During this time, I graduated from university, we survived a pandemic, I flamed out on reality tv, went on mental health medication, got off mental health medication, talked to thousands of people about my story, have spent approximately 435 hours editing episodes, and made some amazing memories along the way. June 16, 2023 10:00 - 1 hour - 45 MB

That idea of "putting on a mask" to hide your pain is something so many of us are familiar with, but when your job requires you to stand in front of a camera and perform at your best day in and day out, that term takes on a whole new meaning.  I'm really excited to share this conversation with all of you today. Today's guest, CTV's Ana Almeida, and I met on a Movember walk back in 2021, and after hearing about her experiences as a person living with Anxiety and how she's used her platform ...

May 19, 2023 14:00 - 55 minutes - 38.3 MB

Conversations like the one you'll hear today are why I started the podcast. The opportunity to sit down and learn more about the people you know the most is such a gift. Today on the pod, I'm joined by my little sister, Caitlyn Moore, to talk about the transitional point she's at in her life as a recent graduate (almost, she just needs to throw the cap, so close enough).
