It's true that all that glitters is not gold. Oftentimes in life, we are presented with certain opportunities that appear to be good for us, and because we let our minds convince us that we have never had or experienced anything so different; when in actuality it is no difference at all. Once the veil is lifted, once the mask falls off, once we see their true colors, is the time to wake up to the lesson and move on. It's yet another cycle in the wheel of life. It just keeps on turning and life just keeps ongoing.  Sometimes it is the ones we love and are closest to us that can disappoint us the most, so just know that it is not an illusion nor is it in your imagination, what you feel deep in your heart is what is actually going on...even though you may not be able to see it.
